FALLON - Western Nevada College's softball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Colorado Northwestern Saturday at North Main Ballpark.
WNC won 9-5 and 9-7. The teams will conclude the series at 9 a.m. today. WNC coach Leah Wentworth said the fourth game of the series won't be made up unless it decides a playoff berth.
"We hit the ball really well," Wentworth said. "We had a lot of hits. We could have had four homers in that first game, but we were playing on a men's slow-pitch field and the fences were about 300 feet. We had some deep fly balls."
Carson grad Cassie Vondrak pitched the opener. She struck out eight and walked four.
Melanie Pfeiffer led the offense, going 4-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs. Niki DiSera went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles and four RBIs. Sarah Cuddahy went 2-for-3 with a double and Ashley Hall went 1-for-4 with a two-run double.
In the second game, Jamie Klopatek worked four innings to pick up the win. Vondrak worked the final three to earn the save.
Ashley Gleason led the onslaught in the second game, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Megan Hein and Vondrak each went 2-for-3. Vondrak hit an inside-the-park homer and drove in three runs, while Hein drove in two runs. Cuddahy went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
