The Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club host two 150th Anniversary celebrations this week: the founding of Nevada Territory (1861-2011) and the 150th Anniversary of the Inauguration of President Abraham Lincoln.
The celebrations will be from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St.
Museum members and children younger than 17 are admitted free. Non-member fee is $8. For more information, call 687-4810 ext. 239 or 245.
The Reno Coin Club will again have their presidential dollar exchanges, plus the state and national park exchanges, at face value or cost. All of the new Lincoln pennies are available, and Reno Coin Club member Doug Larson shares a special display on Civil War money. Curator of History, Robert Nylen, presents a lecture both days on the history of the Lincoln penny and Lincoln's inauguration, which took place March 4, 1861. Lecture times are 11 a.m. on Friday and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Museum Volunteer Ken Hopple runs Historic Coin Press No. 1 both days. In honor of the celebration, a special Commemorative Lincoln/Nevada Territorial Medallion will be minted for the first time in both .999 fine silver and copper.
