CARSON CITY (AP) - Members of an education task force assembled by former Gov. Jim Gibbons left Nevada legislators with a booklet of suggestions for reform and promises to champion them through the process.
Task force co-chair and Wynn Resorts Director Elaine Wynn said Wednesday she was horrified that rankings suggest children born in Nevada have a lower chance of educational success than their peers in any other state.
The task force was commissioned in March 2010 to help compile Nevada's application for Race to the Top funds. Nevada did not win the grant, but task force members want to implement many of the reforms in the proposal.
The report calls for establishing the governor as the CEO of the K-12 education system, relying more heavily on teacher evaluations, and expanding charter schools
