Markey Daniels started work last week as the Nevada Appeal's new advertising director.
Daniels, who has spent about 20 years in the newspaper industry, will oversee the advertising departments for the Nevada Appeal and the Record-Courier.
"That will include, basically, sales and customer service," Daniels said. "So my job is to enhance the experience for both internal customers and external customers with a focus on local businesses and how we can better promote their products and services and afford them a better return on their investment."
That means helping businesses throughout the region with everything from Facebook promotions to online and print advertising campaigns, custom printing and creative design.
"Bringing the opportunity for an advertiser to expand their reach," Daniels said.
Nevada Appeal Publisher Niki Gladys said, "We are fortunate to have Markey join our operation. Her extensive professional experience and media background will be a great asset to us and to our community.
"Markey is sharp and understands our business and how it works. More importantly, she is creative and really gets where we need to go to build a strong future for our media group."
Daniels career has included working in the advertising department for the community division of the Los Angeles Times and the Orange County Register, running her own printing business and most recently serving as the GM for a group of community newspapers located out of San Diego.
"I'm a driver for positive attitudes and positive results," she said. Her mantra: "Discover what it is and fix it."
She said she's already enjoying life in Carson City and is looking forward to camping and riding her bike.
"A community newspaper is loved simply because it's the guard dog and the cheerleader for the community and the Nevada Appeal and Record-Courier are fabulous at doing that," she said. "And as long as we provide great service to great people we are connecting communities."
