IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Freshman Jared Sullinger had 24 points and 12 rebounds and No. 2 Ohio State rallied to overtake Iowa 73-68 on Tuesday night.
Jon Diebler added 14 points for the Buckeyes (15-0, 2-0 Big Ten), who have won five straight over the Hawkeyes for the first time in school history.
Iowa cut Ohio State's 13-point lead to 71-68 on Zach McCabe's 3-pointer with 24 seconds left. But Aaron Craft made two free throws and forced a turnover to put the upset-minded Hawkeyes away.
Ohio State had some trouble early with Iowa (7-7, 0-2) and trailed 35-29 at halftime. But the Buckeyes opened the second half with a 29-10 run - then hung on as the Hawkeyes made one final push.
Freshman Melsahn Basabe had a career-high 22 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks for the Hawkeyes, the only team in the conference with a .500 record.
No. 5 Pittsburgh 83, Providence 79
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gary McGhee scored all of his 13 points in the second half, grabbing a key rebound and making two free throws with 18 seconds left to lead Pittsburgh.
Gilbert Brown scored 17 points in the first half, but ran into foul trouble in the second and finished with 19 for the Panthers (14-1, 2-0 Big East).
After Pitt took a 77-76 lead on Travon Woodall's 3-pointer with 35 seconds left, Providence's Gerard Coleman put a 3-pointer off the back of the rim and McGhee outjumped two Friars for his ninth rebound. He was fouled and made both free throws.
Marshon Brooks scored 28 points for the Friars (11-5, 0-3). Vincent Council had 13 points, 10 assists and six of Providence's 14 steals. But he also had five turnovers and he missed two free throws with 11 seconds left.
No. 14 Notre Dame 73, No. 8 Connecticut 70
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Ben Hansbrough scored 21 points and Notre Dame survived a late surge for the win.
Kemba Walker, averaging 26.7 points entering the game, scored 19 to lead Connecticut (11-2, 1-2 Big East) but had his string of 11 straight games with at least 20 points snapped.
Walker, under tough defense from Hansbrough, shot just 8 for 23 but helped UConn rally from a late 11-point deficit to get within two in the closing seconds. Shabazz Napier added 18 for the Huskies.
Tim Abromaitis, who missed three free throws in the final seconds, added 19 points for the Irish (13-2, 2-1), who were without starting forward Carleton Scott because of a hamstring injury. Notre Dame is 10-0 at home this season. No. 12 Texas 79, Arkansas 46
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Jordan Hamilton scored 16 points to lead Texas.
Hamilton led four Longhorns (12-2) in double figures as freshman Tristan Thompson added 14 points and Gary Johnson and Jai Lucas had 13 each. Johnson had a team-high nine rebounds while Lucas' scoring matched his career-high at Texas.
The 33 points were the greatest margin of victory by Texas in the 153 meetings of the schools, eclipsing the previous high of 24 points during 1971-72.
Jeff Peterson led the Razorbacks (10-3) with 12 points while Delvon Johnson grabbed nine rebounds and Kikko Haydar had 11 points.
