CARSON CITY YOUTH SPORTS COMPLEX

When I think about Carson City Little League I always remember the fun times down at Governor's Field watching my great friend, Jeanine Wittenberg flipping burgers while I watched the fries. And you truly can't think about Carson Little League or Babe Ruth without remember an amazing man, Al Teixeira coaching the kids and organizing all the umpire's leagues, always with a smile on his face. Al was one in a million. So when his brother Matt sent this request I am more then happy to promote, beg and ask all of you within the community to support this project for all the children. Supporters of youth baseball in Carson City have raised $250,000 while keeping the registration fees affordable so children can still participate. Private donations have built the Carson City Youth Sports Complex. The newly completed 6,000 square foot structure is ready for occupancy. However, to complete the facility they need to raise money for field turf and high-tech motorized batting-cage nets to ensure the safety of the children utilizing the complex. With a tax deductible $100 membership, your name will be engraved on a "home plate" shaped plaque to be displayed forever inside the indoor facility. There are names I expect to see on that plaque, Pete Livermore who has always bent over backwards for youth sports, Dick Campagni who has single handedly kept little leaguers on the field, and everyone else who at one point stood on those fields as a coach, umpire, scorekeeper, announcer, parent, snack bar volunteer. Together we can make it happen. Any donation to support the future of Carson City youth is a great donation to the entire town.

COOKIE SALES

That's right the Cookies are back in town through Jan. 26. The presales begin with local young ladies asking family and friends to purchase a box or two of Caramel Delites, Lemonades, Peanut Sandwich and Thin Mints to name my favorites. This year they have a new Weight Watchers cookie called Shout Outs!, a Belgian-style cookie that has no artificial colors, no preservatives and no high fructose corn syrup. Who can turn down a box of Girl Scout Cookies? The delivery date for your own selections will be Feb. 18. It is standard that my son, Kyle gets at least three boxes of thin mints for his February birthday. If you would like, purchase from a local troop.
