Sharon L. Burkett-Kunow passed away peacefully in her sleep at her Gardnerville home on Dec. 14, 2010. She was born in Los Banos, Calif., on April 21, 1956, and became a Nevada resident in 1971. Sharon graduated from Carson High School in 1974 and attended University of Nevada, Reno for two years. For the better part of 25 years, Sharon was employed as an emergency dispatcher, first for the Carson City Fire and Sheriff and later for Nevada Division of Forestry.
Sharon was preceded in death by her brother, Michael D. Burkett and her father, Larry D. Burkett
She is survived by her husband, Scott Kunow; their three dogs, Sasha, Annabel and Heidi. Also by her mother, Alicia Hart of Stagecoach; aunt Lois Biggs of Gilroy, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law Dean and Cathy Burkett of Dayton; brother Rick Burkett of Stagecoach; two nephews Robert Wilkins of Pocahontas, Ark., Matthew Burkett of southern California; niece Erin Fennel of Doyle, Calif.; four grandnieces and two grandnephews.
There will be a celebration of life at Sharky's in Gardnerville at 1 p.m. Jan. 22, 2010, for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Sharon's name to the MS Society.
