LOCAL: Carson girls finish fourth at ski meet

Carson High's girls ski team finished fourth at Tuesday's meet at Alpine Meadows.

Kat Fulwider led the Senators with a ninth-place finish, clocking a 1:34.49 for her two slalom runs. Danielle Beasom was 18th in 1:58.52, Mary Novak was 24th in 2:08.99, Jessica Roberts was 25th in 2:16.75 and Carolyn Carter was 27th in 2:22.00.

The boys squad finished seventh, as several boys were unable to finish their runs.

Dillon Winkelman was 32nd in 2:0782, Ryan Spelts was 33rd in 2:07.96, Cody Hammond was 35th in 2:09.15 and Andy Garcia was 36th in 2:11.58.

Carson returns to action next Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sierra-At-Tahoe.


CHS SCHEDULES

SPRING SIGN-UPS

Carson High's spring sports sign-up night will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the north foyer of the high school.

Now is the time to complete the sports packet and get a physical if needed. Sports packets are available at carsonhigh.com under the "athletics" tab.

Spring sports include baseball, softball, boys golf, track, swimming and diving. Students must have maintained at least a 2.0 grade-point average without failures. For more information, call the athletic office at 283-1900.


POKER NIGHT TO HELP

CHS BASEBALL

Carson High's baseball program is holding its third annual Poker Night from 6 to 11 p.m. Jan. 22 at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

There are two different options for tickets. The first is dinner, drinks (beer, water or soft drinks) and raffle for $25 or dinner, drinks, raffle and poker buy-in for $60.

Also, a booster club strictly for baseball is being formed. The cost is $25.

The Silver Oak Senior Men's Club is currently looking for members for the current season.

CARSON VALLEY GOLF

OFFERS JR. PROGRAM

Carson Valley Golf Club is offering a six-week program for junior golfers starting April 18.

Classes, which will last 50 minutes each, will run at 4 and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

GOOD SCORES AT

CARSON LANES

Bowlers have been rolling some big numbers at Carson lanes recently.

Reggie Ankewbauer rolled games of 300 and 278, while Ray Flanagan had a 290 and 279. Flanagan has had three great series' - 760-735 and 705. Ankewbauer rolled a 700 seris as did Vern Barns. Ben Colee recently had a 736.

On the women's side, Lila Heidemann had a 268 game and a 679 series.


CHS GIRLS TO PLAY

AT EVENT CENTER

Carson High's girls basketball team will play Damonte Ranch at 3 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Reno Convention Center which will benefit the Moms on the Run Pink-Out basketball game.

Your $10 ticket gets you into this game and the Reno Bighorns at 7 p.m. To purchase a ticket, see any girls basketball player or coach Todd Ackerman. Pink-Out T-shirts can be purchased for $10 each.


2 CUPS EVENT

AT CARSON VALLEY

The Carson Valley Golf Club is hosting a 2 Cups Tournament at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The cost is $35 per person which includes greens fees, golf cart, soup at the turn and $10 toward the prize fund.

CMS 7TH GRADERS

OFF TO 2-0 START

Carson Middle School's seventh-grade volleyball team is now 2-1 after wins over South Tahoe (26-24 and 25-14) and Alder Creek (25-18, 13-25, 15-11) last week.

Allison Kibbe had a combined 11 aces, three kills and five digs. Abby Drown contributed five aces, six assists and two digs. Bailey Allen had seven aces, three assists and four kills.


ALL WORK & NO PLAY

LEADS POOL LEAGUE

All Work & No Play leads the Comstock Division of the Carson City chapter of the American Poolplayers Association.

All Work has 162 points, two better than Tied & Soldiered and 12 more than Rack Busters.

Casey Richards of All Work & No Play and Alex Gutierrez lead the 6-9 tier with seven points apiece. Jeff Cordova of All Work & No Play leads the 4-5 tier with 11 points while there is a two-way tied for second. Caren Adkins of Tied & Soldiered leads the 1-3 tier with nine points while teammate Greg Munoz is second with seven points.


EAGLE VALLEY

SPIKES S. TAHOE

The Eagle Valley eighth-grade volleyball team knocked off South Tahoe 25-16 and 25-10 in a TahNeva match.

Bailie Zuber had three kills, while Abbey Dudley, Michelle Perry, Chantal Torres and Lindsay Hettrick added two kills apiece. Natalie Young had three aces and 10 service points and Brittany Moose had an ace and 11 service points.

Eagle Valley is now 3-0.
