PREP ROUNDUP: Carson wrestlers finish fourth at Fernley

FERNLEY - The Carson wrestling team placed six out of 10 wrestlers it sent to the two-day Fernley Invitational.

As a team Carson finished fourth out of 20 teams. Lowry won followed by Spanish Springs and Reed.

Freshman Kyle Sharp (103 pounds) and senior Pat Craugh (112 pounds) both went 4-0 en route to winning individual titles.

Sharp had three pins, including a first-round pin in the finals against a Spanish Spring wrestler.

Craugh dominated his four matches, earning two pins and not allowing a point to be scored on him.

At 125 pounds, Cole McCarthy finished second losing in the finals to a North Valleys wrestler.

Finishing third was Nicholas Lani at 119 pounds. He went 5-1 with three pins. Jordan Luhrs at 140 pounds also placed third going 3-1 with a pin. And at 160 pounds, Nico Garcia finished fourth going 3-2 with two pins.

Carson hosts its last dual meet of the season as Damonte comes to Carson at 6 p.m. Wednesday.


VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL

DAYTON TIPS LOVELOCK

LOVELOCK - Tyler Firestone connected for a three-point play late in the fourth quarter to give the Dust Devils a five-point lead and an eventual 44-42 win over Lovelock.

Lovelock had a chance to win the game, but misfired on a long 3-point attempt. Dayton improved to 14-4 heading into Friday's showdown at home against Fallon.

"We couldn't make a basket to save our lives," Dayton coach Jason Santos said. "We had a lot of great open looks that we missed. We had three shots on one possession several times and came away with nothing."

Dylan Taylor led Dayton with 16 points, while Kage Walker and Adan Garcia added eight apiece. Firestone finished with six and Marcos Macias added five.


VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL

DAYTON FALLS AT LOVELOCK

LOVELOCK - The Dayton girls varsity basketball team was able to handle the press much better Saturday than it was against Fernley on Friday, however this time the Dust Devils couldn't buy a basket in a 58-25 loss to Lovelock.

Devlynn Lahair and Taylor Hill lead the team with seven points apiece. Maribel Ledezma added six and Amber Brooks scored five. Dayton, 6-13 overall, hosts Fallon at 6 p.m. Friday.


FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

DAYTON GIRLS SPLIT

FALLON - The Dayton freshman girls team defeated Spring Creek before dropping the second game to South Tahoe in Fallon.

The Dust Devils rolled to an easy 45-26 win in the opener. Lettie Lynch led the way with 16 points, while Cora Mebius added 14 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.

In the second game, Dayton went cold and couldn't buy a basket in a 22-12 loss to South Tahoe. The game was much closer than a 25 point loss earlier this year to the Vikings.

Muranda Fowler led the team with six points and eight steals.


JV BOYS BASKETBALL

CARSON TOPS DAMONTE

RENO - Despite having just seven players in uniform, the Senators knocked off Damonte Ranch 36-25.

Rafe King led Carson with 12 points and six rebounds, while Jay Lanuza contributed six points and 11 rebounds. Luis Jacquez added six points.
