A small, slow-moving fire in a grassy field south of Carson High School's High Tech Center was quickly extinguished Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze, which started around 3 p.m., spread to about 30-by-50 feet, said Batallion Chief Dan Shirey. The fire was out by 3:15 p.m.

Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, Shirey said it was likely started from a discarded cigarette butt.
