Carson High maintained its perfect Sierra League wrestling record with a 48-24 victory Damonte Ranch Wednesday night at Morse Burley Gymnasium.
The win upped Carson's record to 4-0 heading into next Wednesday's showdown against Douglas in Minden.
Coach Tim McCarthy was happy to get the win, but not so happy with how some of his wrestlers performed.
"It (the match) wasn't that much in question," McCarthy said. "Overall it was a sloppy effort.
"We need to get into better shape. Inmatches that were close, we're the ones that looked like we were gassed. That's an easy fix. We have to make sure the third period is ours. There were a number of matches it didn't look that way."
The match started at 189 pounds, and Carson's Jon Ampudia got a forfeit win. After Cody Tucker was DQ'd at 215, heavyweight Jesse Knight pinned his opponent in 2 minutes 57 seconds to give the Senators a 12-6 lead.
Those two wins gave Carson more than enough breathing room because the top of the lineup is where the Senators continually shine.
Kyle Sharp picked up a forfeit win at 103 to make it 18-6, and then Patrick Craugh (112), Nick Lani (119) and Cole McCarthy (125) all recorded pins to boost the lead to 36-6. McCarthy's pin came at 1:39, Craugh's at 2:35 and Lani's at 1:45.
After Ty Welch lost a tough 4-2 decision at 130, Andrew Cunningham won by forfeit at 135 to make it 42-9. Carson forfeited at 140 and Jordan Luhrs lost 11-7 to Ryan Riley to make it 42-18.
The final two Carson wins were by Niko Garcia at 160 (9-8 over Zach Ewert) and Cody Cunningham (10-7).
Carson returns to action Saturday when it travels to Auburn for the Placer Duals.
