The No. 5 ranked Western Nevada College baseball team got its season off to a solid start with a 8-5 win over South Mountain on Friday in Las Vegas.
Sophomore Tim Peterson picked up the win throwing five innings giving up two runs with four strikeouts and a walk. Matt Robertson came in and picked up a four inning save for the Wildcats. Robertson allowed three runs in four innings.
WNC jumped out early scoring two runs in the first and five runs in the second inning. Kevin Taylor led the Wildcats going 2-for-4 with a single and double, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Beau Day added a two run single in the second inning. Taylor Smart went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Sean Potkay was 1-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored; leadoff hitter Chris Woolley scored twice; and Jonathan Sigado added a hit and a run.
WNC, 1-0, plays a doubleheader against South Mountain today starting at 11 a.m.
