Train your dog to avoid rattlesnakes with professional trainers and live, de-venomized rattlesnakes. Rattlesnake Avoidance Training for Dogs is scheduled 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 9 at Davis Creek Park on the west side of Washoe Valley.
Dogs are naturally curious and want to investigate the sound of a rattler. Rattlesnake bites can cost thousands of dollars in treatment or, worse, cost a dog's life.
Anyone who hikes, hunts or camps with a dog or lives in a rural area should get special training so their dogs know the sight and sound of a rattler means danger, which can also be an early warning for people to avoid a snake.
Cost is $70 for the first dog, with discounts for additional dogs with the same owner.
