Mining is topic at NNDA breakfast meeting

The Northern Nevada Development Authority will have it's monthly breakfast meeting July 27 at Dayton Valley Country Club, 101 Palmer Drive, Dayton.

Topic of the meeting is Mining - Then and Now. Discover why mining is important not only to the state of Nevada but also the Sierra Region.

Hear from Lou Schack, Barrick Gold's Director of Communications and Community Affairs, on how Barrick has become the largest gold mining company in the world, and the largest mining company (of any kind) in Nevada. Schack will describe the company's various operations in and contributions to Nevada.

Corrado DeGasperis, president and CEO at Comstock Mining Company, will talk about the many steps and monetary investments the company is making in the region - specifically Gold Hill and Virginia City. Get first-hand details and information to understand the reasons why mines are being reopened again - such as the Comstock - and what it means for the economics of the communities surrounding these mines.

Bruce Holmgren, Bureau Chief of the Bureau of Mining Regulations and Reclamation at the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection, will present the facts about what the mining industry must do to remain compliant with all state regulations both before, during and after closing a mining location. Holmgren will provide the ins and outs associated with the various mining rules and share the stringent details under which the mining industry works.

Cost is $20 NNDA investor or $35 for guests or at the door. Doors open at 7 a.m., with buffet breakfast served at 7:30 a.m. and program begins at 7:45 a.m. The meeting will conclude at 9 a.m.
