Carson senior center named finalist in Toyota 100 Cars for Good program

The Carson City-based organization, Carson City Senior Citizens Center, is one of 500 finalists in Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program, which will award vehicles to 100 nonprofit organizations based on votes from the public which started May 9.

Toyota's 100 Cars for Good program will showcase five non-profit organizations each day for 100 days on Toyota's Facebook page, facebook.com/Toyota. Visitors to the page can vote once a day for the organization that they feel is most deserving of a new Toyota vehicle. Those who need help with Facebook and voting can be helped by someone at the senior center by calling 883-0703.

The senior center will be one of five organizations highlighted for voting June 16. Local residents are encouraged to support Carson City Senior Citizens Center and their quest for a new Toyota Tundra.

If the senior center receives the most votes and is awarded the vehicle, it will be used for the home delivery of meals to homebound seniors.

Driving for Donors V offers summer promotion

United Blood Services of Reno will offer all blood donors the chance to enter a raffle to win a Toyota Corolla courtesy of the Northern Nevada Toyota Dealers throughout the summer until Sept. 10.

"We are offering our donors a chance to win a beautiful Toyota Corolla as our way of keeping the need for blood donations high during the critical summer months when blood donations are typically low due to schools being out for the summer and everyone's busy schedules," said Steve Thomas, donor recruitment director.

"This is especially important given hospital patients in Northern Nevada continue to need blood every day for blood transfusions due to advancements in the medical field coupled with 67 million baby boomers rapidly moving from blood donors to becoming blood recipients," he said.

"Driving for Donors I through IV enabled us to have the four most successful summers ever," said Lisa Rogers, donor recruitment supervisor.

United Blood Services of Reno is the sole blood products supplier to 20 hospitals in Northern Nevada, and they need approximately 150 blood donations every day to meet the increasing demand for their three principal blood products, which are red blood cells, platelets and plasma.

United Blood Services - Carson City is at 256 E. Winnie Lane. For more information, call Alana Ladd Ross at 887-9111.
