The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is looking for volunteers for its trail building workdays at Stateline for the Daggett Summit Trail Project.
Workdays are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in June. Volunteers of all skill levels and physical abilities are welcome and encouraged to participate - no prior experience necessary.

This is the third trail-building season of the multi-year Daggett Summit project, which will connect the Tahoe Rim Trail (TRT) with the Van Sickle State Park, re-route the TRT off of paved roads, and provide stunning views of Lake Tahoe to more people. Last year 5 miles of new trail was built, but the group still needs to build 4 more miles.
Volunteers should bring their own lunch & water, wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, boots, work gloves, and bring sunscreen, bug spray, water and a backpack. The Tahoe Rim Trail Association will provide hard hats, trail building tools and expert crew leaders.

Pishnack wins stroke play at Empire Ranch
Jack Pishnack won Flight A with a net 61 at the Empire Ranch Senior Men's Club event on June 8.
Jim Barnett and Bill Milligan were seven shots back with 68s. Don McKenzie won Flight B with a 62, while Geoffrey Swann was next with a 65, Lew Dodgion won Flight C with a 67 while Tony Barbaria was a stroke back at 68. Robey Willis won the D Flight with a 66 with Barbaria next at 68. Jim Watt won the E Flight with a 68.
Teats, Tack team up for T.C. win
Rob Jennings-Teat and Alan Tack had 74 points to win the Pat Garrett Flight at Thunder Canyon Men's Club Stableford Tournament.
Dana Whaley and Jordan Anderson were second with a 60 with Mike Schellin and Jim Colgan third with a 56.
The teams of Dave Mello and Jeff Gussow and Dave Westfall and Bob Oglesby tied for first in the Billy The Kid Flight with 38s. Jim Muth and Keith Gottschalk were third with a 36.
Greg Martinelli, John Anderson, Larry Goodnight and Mike Bennert won closest-to-the-hole honors.

Gold Dust West Hosts hoops event
The Gold Dust West Hotel and Casino is hosting the inaugural Street Heat 3-on-3 basketball event July 8 and 9.
There are two basketball divisions, which include recreational and competitive. The recreational division is only $100 per team and has four categories, which include adult, high school (grades 9-12), middle school (Grades 7-8), and youth (Grades 3-4 & 5-6). The competitive division is $120 per team and has three categories, which include women's (any height), men's (6 foot and under), and men's (over 6 feet).
All the festivities will begin on July 8 at approximately 5 p.m. with a DJ, music, a slam dunk competition, a 3-point shooting competition and a free throw shooting competition for kids. On Saturday the tournament will begin.
The Saturday tournament schedule will announced on Friday night.
All entrants will receive a T-shirt, towel, and a 2-for-1 food voucher redeemable inside the Gold Dust West in Carson City. Plus, if you need hotel accommodations the Gold Dust West Carson City is offering special 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament room rates.

Road race back in Virginia City
Spectre Performance is heading back to Virginia City for the second running of the Spectre 341 Challenge on one of the most technical and thrilling mountain roads in the United States.
The race, set for Friday through Sunday will pit supercars, muscle cars and imports against the clock in a full-throttle blast up the mountain road, which will be closed to the public for the event. On June 18th and 19th, regular traffic will be detoured from the truck route on SR341 to SR 342 and 6 Mile Canyon Road. RVs and large trucks can expect up to 30 minute delays. The Speed by Spectre 341 Challenge is a rare opportunity to drive flat-out on one of the most technical and aggressive stretch of mountain road in the country, without the worry of oncoming traffic or law enforcement. The paved course is 5.2 miles long with 22-plus turns, a 1,216-foot rise in elevation, steep drop offs and no guard rails!. Vehicles must be street-legal and registered. Tires must be DOT legal. Event highlights will include a track talk, warm up laps, class qualifying, a car show and parade through Virginia City.
The original Virginia City Hill Climb was founded in 1972 and run through 2002. Amir Rosenbaum holds the all time record for the event, running the course in 3:10 in a Ferrari F40. Six new members were inducted into the 3:41 Club in 2010.
9-Spoke leads pool league
The Comstock Division of the American Poolplayers Association in Carson City has turned into a two-team battle between 9-Spoke and Tied & Soldiered.
Currently 9-Spoke enjoys a two-point lead, 155-153, over Tied & Soldiered. Dean's Machine is third with 141 points.
Mike Snoddy leads the high tier with four points. Kim Dandos and Eric Richards are tied for first in the middle tier with seven points each. Jeff Cordova and Jacob Critchlow are tied for third with six points each. Pam Fitzgerald-Wermes leads the low tier with 12 points, two ahead of Lawrence Gloistein. Kim Fitzgerald-Wermes is third with eight points.
In the Mosconi Division, The Spoke, Squeeze Play and Cues Yer Daddy are tied for first with nine points.
Juan Pina leads the high tier with eight points, while Jamie Day, Robert Haddix and Chris Wood are tied for second with six points. Jerry O'Dell leads Caren Adkins 11-10 in the battle for the middle tier top spot. Eric Richards, Kim Dandos and Christopher McMahon are tied for third with nine points each. Stella Keener, Sean Lynam, Derek Sheldon and Cody Tsuchimoto are tied for first in the low tier with six points each.
Desimone wins Orange Belt
Orange belt Colton Desimone, 6, won a medal for sparring at a Region 1 Tournament held in Seattle over the Memorial Day weekend.
Desimone is with Positive Karate of Carson City and was excited to win at his first tournament.
Carson Valley GC schedules events
Carson Valley Golf Club in Gardnerville has three events scheduled the rest of the week.
Today, the Hum Day Hackers tourney is scheduled for 1 p.m., on Thursday, there will be a ladies clinic starting at 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday, it's a flag tournament starting at 10 a.m.

Norton foursome wins CVGC event
Carson Valley Men's Golf Club Steve Norton, Marty Lane, Jack Zippwald and John Carey shot a 118 to win the Carson Valley Men's Club Two Best Ball Tournament on Sunday. Dennis Patterson, Augie Martinez, Robert Van Nort and Gerald Bing were a stroke behind at 119 Norton (No. 13) and Marc Menezes (No. 18) were closest-to-the-hole winners.
Nine and Dine at Empire Ranch
Empire Ranch is hosting a nine and dine for golfers Friday at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $70, which includes nine holes of golf and dinner for two. For non-golfers the cost is $22.50.
The menu consists of pork chops with cream of mushroom sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with bacon and almonds, rolls and butter, and apple pie a la mode.
