March lecture on life in '30s and '40s

The Douglas County Historical Society's March lecture will feature Mark Jensen, interpreter for the Dangberg Home Ranch. The lecture will be at 7 p.m. today at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395 N., Gardnerville.

Jensen will talk about life in the 1930s and 1940s as reflected in the Dangberg collection. Artifacts, documents and photographs from the collection will illustrate the discussion.

Admission is free to members, $3 to non-members.

Quilt/Blanket Drive set for Saturday

Final dropoff date for the Quilt/Blanket Drive sponsored by the Carson River Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday

at the church at 411 N. Saliman Road.

New quilts will go to Salt Lake City and can include crib sizes, 45x60; single sizes 72x90; and double sizes 90x90.

New and used blankets will go to neighbors in need at the Tahoe Youth and Family Services, an organization that covers all of Douglas County and has huge needs. They offer basic necessities for runaways, the homeless and couch surfers ages 11-24.

Cleaning of used blankets will be provided by Economy Wash & Dry in Carson City.

RSEA to meet today at Q's

The Retired School Employees Association in Carson City will meet at 11:15 a.m. Friday at Q's Restaurant at Fairview Drive and South Carson Street.

The group meets quarterly for informative conversation over a multiple-choice luncheon provided by Q's Restaurant. A $10 a year dues starts in September.

Anyone who has ever worked in a public or private school in any capacity is welcome to join the group and see how friendly Carson City is.

Dayton to participate in March for Meals

Dayton Senior Center announced that it will participate in the national 2011 March for Meals campaign. Dayton Senior Center's March for Meals event will include:

• See's Candy Fundrais-er through March 30, will arrive in time for Easter.

• Saint Patrick's Day Community Dance from 5:30-9 p.m. March 17,

$5 per person.

March For Meals is a national campaign initiated and sponsored by the Meals On Wheels Association of America to raise awareness of senior hunger.

Democratic Women's meeting planned

The Carson City Democratic Women's Club will be meeting on Saturday at Grandma Hattie's.

Guest speaker is Jan Gilbert of the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada. She will discuss current issues in Nevada. During the business meeting, two new activity ideas will be discussed, as well as progress reports on other programs
