The governor has approved the opium law, passed by the late legislature and goes into effect at once. The police will now arrest anyone of any color caught in the act of smoking, or have the implements in his or her possession. All offenders will be rightly dealt with.

A local recorder of weather states that up to date in Virginia City there has been 108 inches of snow since the 10th of January. The "back in '59" boys" will have to scratch their heads a long time to beat it.
