Carson High's track opened its season by finishing second in both the boys and girls in a four-way meet with Douglas, North Valleys and Damonte Ranch.
Damonte's boys finished with 213 points, Carson had 124, Douglas 104 and North Valleys had 70. The Damonte girls finished with 237 points, while Carson had 145. Douglas was at 106 and North Valleys 17.
On the boys side, wins came far and few between for the Senators.
Gabe Pongasi, the Carson football star, won the long jump (18-11) and the triple jump (39-8). Carson won the 4X200 relay (1:36) and Taylor Bradshaw won the 400 (51.87).
Connor Beattie also recorded an 18-11 in the long jump. Clint Page completed the Carson sweep with a mark of 18-9.
"Gabe did a good job," Carson coach Robert Maw said. "We thought he might hit 40 feet. He's got the capability to do that.
"The 4X200 relay was missing Trey Jensen, but still got first place. The 400 relay (third place) had a couple of bobbles."
Bradshaw's mark was a PR by nearly two seconds. He also turned in a strong performance in the 100, running an 11.58. Page was fifth in the 100 at 11.56.
Nathan Hazard finished third in the shot put (40-2) and third in the discus (133-5), In the pole vault, A.J. Winder and Eric Garcia each cleared 11-6.
Connor Fallon was fifth in the triple jump at 36-3. Nick Greene was third in the 3200 in 12:14 and Matt Nolan was third in the 400 in 55.52.
On the girls side, Rebecca Matley took third in the 100 hurdles (17.69) and won the 300 hurdles (50.75). Kenzie Tillitt won the long jump (15-4), took second in the triple jump (31-2) and was second in the 300 hurdles (51.3). Elena Thurman was second in the long jump (14-7) and won the 100 (13.02).
Josie Daggs won the 100 hurdles in 17:26 and Alex Drozdoff won the 3200 in 12:44 and took fifth in the 1600 (6:03). Amanda Gordon took third in the 3,200 at 13:18. Mikayla Story was third in the pole vault with a mark of 7-feet and fifth in the triple jump at 30-3.
