LAS VEGAS (AP) - Clark County's largest employee union is agreeing to a 2 percent wage cut under a mediated contract being offered for union ratification.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported Tuesday the tentative three-year pact involving about 5,500 local Service Employees International Union members would save the county more than $8 million a year.
If workers ratify it, county commissioners are due to vote April 5. It would go into effect on April 16.
It's not clear if the contract would avert layoffs while the cash-strapped county and state deal with falling revenues.
Union spokesman Nick DiArchangel says workers were swayed by managers and nonunion employees also taking a 2 percent pay cut.
Most employees will still be eligible for 1 percent cost-of-living raises and up to 4 percent merit increases.
