AAA announces Tipsy Tow program

AAA Nevada will offer a service to take people who have been drinking and their cars home on St. Patrick's Day.

The service will be offered from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. tomorrow to Nevada, California and Utah drivers. Drivers, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers can call

1-800-222-4357 for a free tow home up to five miles.

The service will provide a one-way ride for the driver and vehicle to the driver's home as long as there is sufficient room for them to be transported safely in the tow truck. Reservations are not available.

Life of Jesus presented in dramatic portrayal

A dramatic presentation of "The Gospel of Matthew" will be presented at 7-9 p.m. Friday at St. Gall Catholic Church, 1343 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville.

Performed by Michael Reardon and directed by Patrick Lane, "The Gospel of Matthew" is a contemporary translation of scripture, proclaimed in the oral tradition of the early church, designed with music, lighting and costuming.

A reception to meet the artists will follow the presentation.

There is no admission charge, however an offering will be received to help cover expenses.

Emblem Club St. Patrick's fundraiser planned

The Emblem Club will celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a fundraising dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Elks Lodge, at Nevada and Robinson streets.

Cost is $10 per person for corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings.

This fundraiser benefits the club's Special Charities Account for local charities, which include hearing impaired children, Safe Grad Nights, Camp TLC, Boys & Girls Club, and many more.

Happy Senior Tours goes to Silver Legacy

The Carson City Senior Center's "Happy Senior Tours" group will travel to the Silver Legacy on April 12.

The bus will load at 7:45 a.m., in the east parking lot of the senior center. It will depart at 8:15 a.m. and return to the center at 4 p.m.

Mammovan to visit Carson City

The Mammovan will visit two Carson City locations next week offering mammograms to geographically isolated and uninsured women. Mammograms will be available at no charge by appointment only, for age- and income-eligible women.

The Mammovan will be at Friends In Service Helping from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Monday at 138 E. Long St. and at Smith's Food and Drug from 7:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Tuesday at 599 E. William St. Insured, uninsured, Medicare and Medicaid women will be served.

The Mammovan is a program of Nevada Health Centers and supported through grants from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Northern, the First Lady's Fund, the David and Linda Shaheen Foundation, Smith's Food and Drug Stores, Inc., Safeway Foundation, the Harrah's Foundation, Inc. and the Women's Health Program.

High Sierra Swing Dance Club and the Carson Nugget present the Sierra Swing Showcase April 2-3 in the Nugget's upstairs ballroom, 507 N. Carson St., Carson City. Dance contests and workshops for adults and youths are interspersed with open dancing to a variety of DJ music.

The Swing Into Spring Formal Dinner Dance and "Local Celebrities Who Think They Can Dance " contest is 6 p.m.-midnight April 2.
