Positive results are in for the Business Resource and Innovation Center, the specialized business branch of the library located downtown. BRIC users have praised the conference rooms, computers, business counseling and information help as the main benefits of the facility and patrons who responded to a survey were either certain or very likely to use the services of the BRIC in the future.
Databases and web-based resources dedicated to assist community members of all ages in a job search are available on the library's website. JobNow by Brainfuse provides live interview coaching, resume assistance, job retraining resources and test preparation, among other topics. Learning Express Library offers civil service, licensing and academic practice tests for both career advancement and college entrance. The Nevada Career Information System helps those looking for employment make informed career choices and learn qualifications needed for job success.
Nevada Legal Services events scheduled
• Nevada Legal Services will present a workshop in Spanish, discussing the topic of foreclosures. The presentation begins at
2 p.m. Thursday in the library auditorium.
• The regularly scheduled legal clinic begins at noon Thursday in the auditorium and the self-help portion of the monthly program, which has people available to give legal assistance to those completing and filing forms without legal representation continues from 1-3 p.m.
Capital City Reads group discussion
The first book club discussion group convenes at
3 p.m. March 29 in the auditorium to discuss "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and other books relating to the theme, novel destinations. The book club in Ms. Barrows' novel originated as an alibi when the group was discovered breaking a curfew imposed by the Germans. Participants are welcome to discuss other related books.
Youth activities
• The Teen Advisory Board meets from 3-5 p.m. Friday. Teens interested in becoming a part of an ever-expanding youth services program can enjoy pizza and drinks.
• The Teen Book Club also meets from 3-5 p.m. and will discuss the book "Secret of the Sirens" by Julia Golding.
Paperback read and return exchange
Looking for paperback reading ideas? Check out the kiosk located near the entrance of the library near the magazines. Read a book, return it and get another and possibly add gently used paperbacks for others.
Board of Trustees meeting slated
The Library Board of Trustees holds its regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sierra Room at the Community Center. Information regarding the proposed digital media lab will be presented and will include funding, staffing and operation. Labs, from the YOUmedia learning space in the Harold Washington Public Library in Chicago to facilities at the University of Virginia, University of Georgia and Loyola University, foster an environment for teaching and learning and include audiovisual production, physical interactivity, 2D/3D animation and assistance with projects and media delivery content.
