Lancers pound Douglas

RENO - The Douglas baseball team entered Wednesday hoping to keep its season alive against McQueen.

As it turned out, the Tigers never really got into the game.

McQueen pounded out 13 hits and four home runs on its way to an 11-0 win at Galena High School, ending Douglas' season.

"It's a tough way to go out," Douglas coach Bruce Jacobsen said. "I don't think anyone really pictured this. It just wasn't there today.

Douglas loaded the bases twice in the game, both times with two outs, but was again plagued by a lack of clutch hitting, coming up empty both times.

"We had chances, like we have all season, but it just wasn't there," Jacobsen said.

McQueen pitcher Christian Stolo was solid all afternoon, carrying a no-hitter into the top of the fourth and finishing with six strikeouts and four walks in the six-inning shutout.

McQueen brought four runs across in the bottom of the first inning, capped by a two-run homer from Alex Bentley and never looked back.

The Lancers scored three in the third with the burst started by back-to-back solo shots to left field from Kody Reynolds and Mark LeDesma. A run in the fourth stretched the lead to 8-0 and Reynolds ended the game with a three-run home run to left.

Tanner Egan went 2-for-3 to lead the Tigers at the plate and Leo Trebotich and Cody Lommori each went 1-for-2.
