A $12.9 million contract to resurface Highway 395 from Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville to Highway 50 in Carson City is under consideration by the Nevada Department of Transporation.

Transportation spokesman Scott Magruder said the apparent low bidder was Teichert Construction out of Roseville, Calif.

The bid is higher than estimates prepared by the state, but Magruder said the cost of oil may have affected it.

The state has also scheduled two public information meetings to discuss the highway project. The Douglas meeting is 4-7 p.m. May 24 at the CVIC Hall in Minden. A meeting in Carson is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. May 25 at the Carson City Fairgrounds, 701 Old Clear Creek Road.

Magruder said the project is scheduled to begin in June and will continue until June 2012.

Comments may be submitted in writing at the meetings or verbally to a court reporter, who will be at both sessions. Comments may also be e-mailed to info@dot.state.nv.us. Include U.S. 395 Preservation Project in the subject line.

Comments may be mailed to Nicholas Johnson, Project Manager, Roadway Design Division, Nevada Department of Transportation, 1263 S. Stewart St., Carson City, NV 89712.
