Wonders of the microscope: There was considerable excitement on Carson street caused by a man who was selling microscopes at one dollar a piece. "Look here, gentlemen," said the vendor, "here is a piece of cheese from one of your grocery stores. I rub a little on the lens and what do you see? Those holding the instrument to their eyes were astonished at beholding swarms of crawling insects about the size of a Gold Hill bed bug and vowed never to eat cheese in any form again.
