• The Virginia & Truckee Railroad equipment will be operating for the Nevada State Railroad Museum's annual Memorial Day Steam-Up. The train runs every 40 minutes from 10 a.m -4 p.m. Saturday through Monday.

The museum is on Highway 395 at Fairview Drive in Carson City.

New exhibits feature several historical objects never exhibited before at the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

"This is the first major renovation to the museum's Jacobsen Interpretive Center since it opened 21 years ago," said Curator of Education Frank Ackerman.

A combination museum admission/train fare will be collected for each person upon arrival. Fees are: $3 for ages 6 through 11, $5 for ages 12 through 17 and $10 for adults.

The museum is located at 716 N. Carson St. at the south end of Carson City at the intersection of Fairview Drive. A yellow train station and red water tank at the entrance to the museum grounds are landmarks.

• A Memorial Day service will be 1-2 p.m. Monday at Lone Mountain Cemetery off Beverly Drive. Immediately following the service, around 2-2:15 p.m., the Carlin Camp 25, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will lay a wreath at the Civil War statue in Grand Army plot at the Lone Mountain Cemetery to mark Memorial Day and the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.

The group is heir to the defunct Grand Army of the Republic, the main Union veterans' organization, which at one time included 8,000 posts across the country and included the Custer Post 5 in Carson City. They do historical research/presentations on the Civil War and related topics, represent Civil War veterans at veterans' events, and keep alive the memory of the sacrifices they made as soldiers keeping the country together between 1861-1865 and their patriotic activities as veterans afterwards.
