During the recent spell of cold weather the children at the State Orphans' Home had a better time than most. Nearly the whole of the Home ground was covered in ice and the old horse was utilized from morning to night pulling a sled with children. With little or no illness at the home, and more wholesome food and better care in all respects, one-half of the children in the state.

100 years ago

Good reports continue to come from Carroll, the new camp in the Phonolite section. Parties returning from the new diggings are all satisfied there is a camp in sight. The shaft on the property is now down 80 feet and high grade is in sight.

Willie Dreyer, long-distance runner for the past 20 years and former 10,000 meter champion winner of 69 long distance races was married in Carson City this forenoon to Nancy Bradford of Oakland.

50 years ago

Nevada Senators Allan Bible and Howard Cannon are pleased with the administration's decision to discontinue the purchase of domestic silver. Bible says it will be advantageous to the lead-zinc industry, where silver is an important byproduct.

20 years ago

A new helicopter is to arrive today to replace the Care Flight aircraft that went down last week killing all four aboard. In a week's period two or three persons could have qualified for transport, but there was no helicopter to serve the Northern Nevada area.
