Niall McGuinness and his New World Jazz Project will heat up Plan:b Micro-Lounge Saturday. Doors open at 8 p.m. for this all-ages concert.

The Jazz Project offers its nouveau sound mixing soul, Latin, and Afro-jazz music. Redefining the art of jazz, the New World Jazz Project lays down groove-oriented original compositions and soulfully-arranged modern classics.

Lead by Niall McGuinness on saxophone with turns on flute and percussion, the Jazz Project also consists of Garett Grow on Fender Rhodes electric piano; Kyle Rothchild on bass; Eric Finkelstein on drums; and Eric Middleton on congas, bongos, shekere.

McGuinness grew up in Florida, where he developed an affinity for Latin music. Playing salsa gigs, he found he could freely improvise, yet maintain a groove the listener can readily relate to. He brings that Latin influence - including hand percussion as an integral component- to the New World Jazz Project.

The Plan:b October lineup also includes: Justin McMahon brings his alternative, folk sounds to Plan:b at 8 p.m. Friday. Oct. 14, catch acoustic guitarist Tyler Stafford playing folk and Indie. And Chris Williams will appear Oct. 15 at Plan:b.

Plan:b Micro-Lounge is located 318 N. Carson St., in Carson City a block north of the Capitol. For more information, call 887-8879.
