While sprinklers inside Paul Schat's Bakery at the Carson Mall quickly knocked out a small electrical fire there on Sunday evening, water damaged prevented teh shop from opening Monday.

Carson City Fire Battaliion Chief Eric Bero said heat tape inside the freezer shorted out against the copper pipe, heating the pipe and igniting some boxes and paperbags resting against the pipe six feet from the freezer.

Bero said the flames from the boxes and bags charred the wall and ceiling. The heat ignited the overhead sprinklers and the fire was doused, as were some of the bakery's supplies and prepared goods.

Bero said the bakery was closed Monday, but it expected to reopen today.
