LOCAL: Yerington hammers Dayton

DAYTON - Defending state champion Yerington swept past Dayton 25-19, 25-13 and 25-12.

Makena Lommori finished with 18 kills, 13 digs, nine assists and four blocks, while Jennifer Aiazzi added 11 kills. Kelsey Soukup contributed eight kills. Cierra Gamez led Yerington in Digs with 14. Savena Rogers had five assists.

Yerington is 23-3 overall, while Dayton dropped to 6-6 in league.

Dayton, which hosts Lovelock Friday, didn't supply any statistics. The team lost three players and is playing with seven members girls have reportedly left the team, but coach Monica Halverson refused to comment on the matter.

Collins moves on

in girls regional tennis

RENO - Carson High's Emily Collins, the No. 1 player on the team, won her first-round match 6-0 and 6-2 at the Northern 4A regionals on Wednesday afternoon.

Collins' teammate, Analiza Ong, wasn't so fortunate. She dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to the No. 8 seed from the High Desert League.

Collins advances to the next round on Friday at noon at Caughlin Ranch in Reno. Action gets under way at noon.

On the boys' side, Blake Sly advanced to Friday action with a 6-1, 6-0 victory. He'll return to action Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Caughlin Ranch.

Spencer Brinson and Ben Drozdoff lost their matches. Brinson lost 6-2 and 6-4 to the No. 7 High Desert seed, while Drozdoff lost 6-2 and 6-0.

JV SOCCER

Carson boys edge Douglas

After giving up an own goal in the first 10 minutes of the game, Carson scored three tims in the second half to post a 3-1 win over visiting Douglas.

Fernando Torres had a goal for the Senators, while Francisco Barrios and Danny Limon added a goal and assist apiece.

Carson improved to 7-1-4.

Carson City Pop Warner Midget Football will be hosting a car wash this Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Pizza Factory. located on Highway 50 East.

The cost is a $5 donation.

All money raised will help this team to travel to San Jose for the regional playoffs in November.

JR. HIGH BASKETBALL

Carson Middle tops Eagle Valley

Carson Middle School moved to 16-0 with a 31-13 win over Eagle Valley in an eighth-grade girls game.

Serena Miller led Carson with 13 points and Lindy Lehman added eight. Ivy Pembrook led Eagle Valley with nine points.

Eagle Valley beat South Tahoe 33-8, Fernley 30-14, Dayton 42-23, Alder Creek 34-19 and Pau Wa Lu 38-17. Eagle Valley lost to Carson Valley 27-16.
