Louise M. Goni, 97, a long time resident of Carson City, passed away on August 29, 2011 at the Evergreen Care Center in Carson City, Nev. She was one of two children born to Basque parents in Elko, Nev. Her parents owned the Star hotel in Elko, Nev. Louise came to Carson City in the 1930's to work as a stenographer for Judge Taber who was a Supreme Court Judge. She worked 33 years for 3 judges: Judge Taber, Judge Badt and Judge Collins, retiring in 1964. In 1936, in Carson City, Louise met William (Bill) Goni at a dance at the Civic Auditorium (now the Children's Museum), and in May 1943 they were married; they were together for 65 years until Bill passed away in 2008. In the 1970's her husband retired and they traveled to various places including China, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Instanbul, and Spain, but her favorite place was Spain where she visited some of her Basque relatives. Traveling was one of Louise's favorite activities. She also enjoyed belonging to a riding club and loved horses, especially Keensey, her favorite horse. Her other passion was playing bridge with her favorite friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William (Bill), and her sister Julia. She is survived by two nephews - Kenneth Goni and Joseph Goni, and three nieces - Vivian Bettman, Katherine Bryer and Phyllis Goni-Latzy.
