Mark Raymond will serve as interim publisher of the Nevada Appeal and The Record-Courier following Niki Gladys' decision to resign and accept a position with another publication.

Raymond, publisher of The News-Review in Roseburg, Ore., and general manager of the newspapers' Sierra Nevada Media Group, will begin serving as interim publisher of the Appeal and The Record-Courier on Monday.

"Niki Gladys has piloted the Nevada Appeal with grace and skill through some very challenging times," Raymond said Thursday. "Under her leadership, the newspaper's stature has grown in the community. The newspaper has been recognized for quality within the industry."

Gladys, who came to Swift in 2008, led the newspapers' efforts in developing and resurrecting literacy programs in the region. In the past two years under her leadership, she and her staff have raised more than $10,000 and volunteered countless hours toward those efforts. She helped conceive and championed a successful annual charity golf tournament benefiting Literacy for Life.

The Nevada Appeal remains committed to continuing its charity fundraising efforts and sponsorships that benefit the community.

"It has been an honor to work with the talented and dedicated staff at the Nevada Appeal and The Record-Courier," Gladys said Thursday. "And I've enjoyed the tremendous privilege of serving and being part of this very engaged community. I have every confidence that the smart and energetic management team at the Nevada Appeal and The Record-Courier will carry on the good work of community journalism."

During her tenure, Gladys worked with business and community leaders to return the Appeal to six-day-a-week publication, furthering the goal of increasing community engagement with the newspaper and enhancing the overall quality of life in the region.

"Niki and her team have continuously improved the newspaper, and we will continue that work," said Raymond.

"This year, we've added very experienced leadership in editorial, advertising, production, and circulation, and the results show in the newspaper," Raymond said. "Our search now will be for a publisher who builds on this and continues the tradition of service to the community."
