A 20-acre brush fire in Goni Canyon in North Carson City was quickly contained Wednesday afternoon.

Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi the fire was about a mile into the hills off Goni Road burning near a dirt road and a small mining operation. No homes were threatened.

Investigators were not able to determine a cause.

"They are checking the area out to see if they can pinpoint something," he said.

Giomi said for a short time the fire was growing rapidly as it burned into vegetation that hadn't burned in several years.

But with the aid of air support from slurry planes and helicopters, fire crews from the Carson City Fire Department, Bureau of Land Management and Nevada Division of Forestry were able to contain it within 90 minutes.

The cause is under investigation.
