Huskies turn back Carson

RENO - Carson High fell behind 5-1 after four innings, and suffered a 7-5 loss to the Reno Huskies.

Carson dropped to 7-4, while Reno improved to 9-0. The teams conclude their two-game series today at 3:45 at Ron McNutt Field.

Carson made five errors which led to three unearned runs. Carson outhit Reno 14-5. It's the second straight game where Carson has outhit its opponent and still lost the game.

"I thought Jace did a good job," Carson coach Cody Farnworth said. "We just didn't make the routine plays and we made a couple of mental mistakes. We've got to clean it up."

Carson took a 1-0 lead in its opening at-bat, as Gehrig Tucker singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Nick Domitrovich.

Reno tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the inning, and then added two in the second and two in the fourth off starter/loser Jace Zampirro which made it 5-1.

Carson closed to 5-4 in the fifth when Domitrovich and Maher both singled. With runners at the corners, Casey Wolfe unloaded a three-run homer to make it 5-4. Reno answered back with two of its own in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4.

Carson put up a mild threat in the seventh when Rory Petersen doubled and scored on a single by Drew Moreland, who stretched his hitting streak to four straight games. Reno got out of the inning without any further damage.

Moreland led Carson's attack with three hits, while Wolfe, Domitrovich, Maher and T.J. Thomsen collected two hits apiece. Tucker, Petersen and Dion Copoulos finished with a hit apiece.
