TRUCKEE, Calif. - Dayton sophomore Makayla Shadle recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed only one hit in a 10-0 crossover win Tuesday afternoon in Northern 3A softball action.
Shadle fanned 14 and walked just one. Sage Parkhurst had the only hit off of Shadle, that coming in the second inning.
In the third, the Dust Devils scored their run on an error, and added two more in the fourth on two hits and an error. The Dust Devils struck for seven runs in the sixth, as Andrea Ramirez, Kelly Combs, Shadle and Gemma Ramirez all had run-scoring hits.
Shadle retired the Wolverines in order in the bottom of the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Dayton improved to 10-5 overall while Truckee fell to 9-6-1.
BASEBALL
Carson loses 11-1
MODESTO, Calif. - Enochs broke open a tight 3-1 game by scoring eight unanswered runs to knock off Carson 11-1 at the Dick Windemuth Easter Baseball Tournament at Downey High School. Carson, 0-1-1 in the tournament, returns to action today at 12:45 against Davis High. The game will be played at Modesto High School.
Carson threw four different pitchers - Charlie Banfield, Tyler Valley, Nick Domitrovich and TJ Thomsen.
"The wheels fell off (from the fifth on)," Carson coach Cody Farnworth said. "We only had four hits. Their left fielder made a couple of diving catches. We played pretty good defense."
Brock Pradere led the Carson offense with two hits, while Casey Wolfe and Carter Nuckolls added a hit apiece.
