Carson City sheriff’s officials are searching for suspects after two bullets punched through the heavy wood front door of Justice of the Peace John Tatro’s house Tuesday morning. The bullets left two clean holes in the front door, traveled through Tatro’s living room, through a sliding glass door and out to the yard. One bullet lodged itself in a fence. The glass door shattered from the punctures, Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said.At 4:23 a.m., Tatro called 911 to report that someone had shot into his house. Neighbors also heard the shots. Neither Tatro nor his wife was injured in the shooting.Deputies were unable to locate any suspects. The sheriff’s office is looking into possible suspects, although neither a motive nor a suspect has been yet identified.Security at the Carson City Courthouse has been increased, as well as for the judges, said Chief of Alternative Sentencing Rory Planeta.Alternative Sentencing has protocols, he said, and those protocols are observed when an incident such as this occurs. The Tahoe Douglas bomb squad, along with a K-9 bomb-sniffing unit from the Consolidated Bomb Squad swept the courthouse to make sure it was secure.“The building has been checked,” he said. “It’s just precautionary.” That extra bit of caution is all part of the protocols, he said. The increased security will continue until further notice.Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 775-887-2008 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
