The Carson Valley Arts Council will present the folk and world music of the Joe Craven Trio on Jan. 11.

The concert is in the CVIC Hall at the corner of 5th and Esmeralda streets in Minden. The doors open at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring a no-host bar provided by the Tahoe Winery and Bistro. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. For information and tickets go online to www.cvartscouncil.com or call (775) 782-8207.

A power trio of keyboards, key bass, drums, fiddle, mandolin, found sound and vocals, this celebration is a surprisingly full sound for a party of three, paying tribute to traditional American folk, blues, New Orleans, swing, funk, as well as the music of Brazil, Haiti, Ireland, Cuba and Puerto Rico.

Joe Craven has made music with many folks ranging from multi-string instrumentalist David Lindley to Blues slide guitar master Roy Rogers to Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia and groups from Psychograss to The Persuasions to The Horseflies. He was percussionist and fiddler for mandolinist David Grisman for almost 17 years and was special guest with fusion banjo player Alison Brown and her Quartet for almost seven years.

Craven will be joined by keyboardist John R. Burr and percussionist Kendrick Freeman. Both these musicians are highly regarded for their own work and, like Joe, have played with a long roster of other nationally known artists. This will be a high energy, eclectic night of roots music! The Carson Valley Arts Council is in a capital campaign to raise funds to retire the debt on the Copeland Lumber Warehouse. Those attending the concert will have an opportunity to make a contribution, have their photo taken with our Big Check, and receive an original hand-painted pen or pendant by local artist Pam Brekas.
