The Tigers had led 28-25 at the half and 44-34 after three quarters.Hunter Myers led the Tigers with 14 points in the game. Pat Johnson had 12 points, Austin Evans and Michael Nolting each had eight and James Herrick added seven.VARSITY GIRLSThe Carson girls basketball team dropped a 71-42 decision to James Logan at the West Coast Jamboree in the Bay Area. The teams were close at halftime before James Logan got hot making three 3-pointers in the third and fourth quarters. “We made an adjustment to their inside game, and they got hot,” said coach Nate Tolbert. Tolbert said it was a disappointing outcome, but the Senators improved their play from Wednesday and Thursday, citing improvements in free throw shooting (17-of-21) and reducing the number of turnovers.Savanah Smith led the team with 23 points, including 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Elena Thurman added eight points. Carson plays Clovis North at 9:30 a.m. today.HAZARD 43, DOUGLAS 31The Douglas girls basketball team lost to Hazard 43-31 Friday morning at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic, dropping to 7-7 overall on the year.Desiree Cage scored 15 points and Diana Regalado scored nine points in the loss. Leonna Mortimer added another five points for Douglas.WRESTLINGThe Carson wrestling team failed to medal at the Sierra Nevada Classic at the Reno Livestock Events Center on Friday.Carson sent five wrestlers to day 2 of the tournament but none were able to advance. Kyle Sharp (120 pounds), Brady O’Keefe (138 pounds) and Jordan Luhrs (170 pounds) all won their first match of the day before being eliminated. Nicholas Lani (138 pounds) and Brady Rivera (182 pounds) were both eliminated during their first bout of Friday. “It was not a great tournament for us,” coach Tim McCarthy said. “The five kids who advanced to day 2 wrestled well.”McCarthy said the Senators “have a lot of stuff to work on during practice,” this week before heading to the Granada tournament in Livermore, Calif., next weekend. JV BOYS BASKETBALLThe Carson JV boys basketball team knocked off Fallon 64-54 during the State Farm Holiday Classic in Reno on Friday. Asa Carter led the team with 13 points. Erick Jaquez scored 12 points.On Thursday, Carson lost to Damonte 63-47. Robby Miller, Ian Schulz and Carter all scored 10 points for the Senators. Carson, 6-6, plays at 1:30 p.m. today against Dayton.JV GIRLS BASKETBALLThe Carson JV girls basketball team advanced to the championship game of the State Farm Holiday Classic in Reno on Friday. Carson defeated Galena 48-28. Leading the Senators were Michelle Perry with 16 points and Lindy Lehman with seven points. The Senators full-court defense was too much for Galena. The Senators did receive some bad news as Alyssa Ridley left the game with an injury. Coach Mike Peterson said he believed Ridley would be out for the rest of the year.Carson plays Ukiah, Calif., at 6 p.m. today at North Valleys High School in the tournament title game.FRESHMEN GIRLS BASKETBALLCARSON 47, GALENA 9 Serena Miller was two rebounds short of a triple-double leading the Carson freshmen girls team into today’s championship game at the State Farm Holiday Classic in Reno. Miller scored 21 points, had 12 steals and eight rebounds for the Senators. Miller hit five 3-pointers during the game. Bailey Allen scored nine points, had six steals and five assists to go along with three rebounds. Andrea Maffei added eight steals.
