Obituary: Louis Irwin Larson

Louis Irwin Larson, 81, of Carson City, Nevada, passed away on January 28, 2012 at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center. He was born on April 14, 1930 in Tulare, California to Irwin and Letitia Larson. Louis has been a resident of Carson City since 1997, coming from Marin County, California.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Major-Retired Irwin Larson and Letitia Wilson, and his nephew Dean Larson. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara Larson; brother, Leland J. Larson; their foster son, Michael Esquivel; niece, Janine (Christopher) Caughlin and their children: Alexander and Jenna Marlene; niece, Lorane Lind; niece, Kimberly Guilfoyle and her son, Ronan; nephew, Anthony Guilfoyle; great-nieces, Rita and Megan, and great-nephew Andrew Larson.

Louis was a member of the Petaluma-Hamilton Masonic Lodge #180 for over 20 years, and the Native Sons of the Golden West Twin Peaks Parlor #214 for over 27 years. Also, he was a member of the Sertoma International Club in Carson City for 5 years, which helps individuals with hearing health issues. Louis and his wife, Barbara, were also members of the Carson City Raider Booster Club, having had season tickets for many years.

Louis proudly coached and taught in the Oakland School District from 1966-1980 while living in the Oakland area. During this time, he was the head of the Physical Education Dept. and Head Football Coach for McClymonds High School. His teaching career started at a Private Boys School. In the latter part of Louis's life, he earned his doctorate in Safety Engineering in the 1970's, then he worked at the Bureau of Engineering and Inspection for the San Francisco Public Works Dept. from 1982 until his retirement in 1996.

Special acknowledgements and a sincere thank you is extended from Louis and Barbara to the following groups: the staff at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center (especially the nurses and staff of the third floor oncology unit); all of the Carson City Fire and Paramedic crews that made the trips to their home; the Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Care Center on Ormsby Blvd.; the staff at Davita Dialysis; and the following doctors: Dr. Jeffrey Basa, Dr. Guy Foster, Dr. Robert Quigley, Dr. Michael Murphy, Dr. James Sullivan, and Dr. Randall Nixon.

There will be a celebration of Louis's life on his birthday, April 14, 2012 at Louis and Barbara's home in Carson City from 4-6 pm.
