Long-time Carson City resident, Doris Pears Beckie, succumbed to a lengthy illness on February 11, 2012. Born to Thomas and Mabelle Gifford Mooney in West Hickory, Pennsylvania, Doris spent the majority of her adult years in Nevada.
As Doris Pears, she worked many years for the State of Nevada in various departments, including State Highway, Legislative Council and Education. Doris and Vern Pears retired twice to Florida, each time returning to Nevada. They finally retired to Pennsylvania to care for Vern's ailing father. When Vern died in 1984, Doris again came back to Nevada, which she considered "Home".
Doris then went on to attain her Associate degree from Western Nevada Community College, marry Maynard Beckie, become very active in the Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine, and Daughters of the Nile (holding the highest local office in each organization), and serve as an active volunteer at Carson Tahoe Hospital and the Carson City Senior Citizens Center. In the midst of all this activity, Doris and Maynard found time to travel extensively (Australia, Europe, and their very favorite spot, Hawaii).
Doris was preceded in death by her husbands in 1984 and 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Blake of Carson City;, her son Garry Fitzgerald (Louise) of Avon Park, Florida; step-son Donald (Caroline) Beckie of Greer, South Carolina; step-son Merle (MaryLou) Pears of Butler, Pennsylvania, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation will be provided by Autumn Funerals with a memorial service to be arranged at a future time.
