Snoring: A preacher was annoyed by snoring in church that resulted in several church members being arrested for interrupting divine worship. The Judge acquitted them on the ground that when a man rented a pew he could do what he had a mind to in it. A pew was like a berth in a sleeping car, and a man could sleep in it or sit up and listen to the mocking bird.

Atomic Waste: A contract has been signed by the State of Nevada permitting a California company to bury low-yield radioactive material in the desert near the town of Beatty ... terms of the contract state that the waste will be transported into Nevada encased in cement and then buried at a depth considered safe by experts in Nye County.

Inflation rate: The government reports that last year"s inflation rate was 8.9 percent which is the lowest since 1977. In 1979 it hit a decade high of 13.3 percent.

Photo caption: Glen Lucky of Northern Nevada carried the Olympic torch through a section of downtown Carson City. Lucky, who suffers from cerebral palsy, is a wel- known resident who drew a large group of spectators.
