Marketing and PR networking meeting set for Feb. 1

The Carson Area Marketing and PR Network will meet at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 1 to network and share ideas for professional best practices.

The meeting will be held at the Business Resource Innovation Center at 108 E. Proctor St. in Carson City.

The meeting is free and non-members who are marketing, public relations or journalism professionals may attend with advance notice.

Greater Nevada Credit Union names new VP of IT

Linda Barker has been named the new vice president of information technology at Greater Nevada Credit Union.

Barker will be responsible for leading the Carson City-based credit union's technology initiatives and supporting its internal team, business partners and members. She recently moved to Carson City from Houston.

JobConnect offers free employment prep workshops

Carson City JobConnect will offer four classes on life skills and employment preparation beginning Tuesday and running through Thursday.

There will be one class a day and each will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the JOIN offices, 1925 N. Carson St.

Day one will focus on life skills; day two is how to apply marketing principles when selling your abilities and experience to an employer; day three on resume building; and day four on interview skills.

AARP to begin free tax-aide service in February

AARP will begin offering its free income tax preparation for low- and moderate-income taxpayers starting Feb. 1 and running through April 17.

Special attention will go to those ages 60 and older, though taxpayers of all ages and income levels will be served, regardless of whether they are AARP members or not.

Taxpayers are advised to bring the following items with them to the tax preparation site: last year's tax return; all W-2 forms from their employer; any 1099 statements from banks, pensions or brokerage firms; W-2Gs from gambling winnings, home mortgage interest statements, paid property tax bills, medical expenses, educational expenses, child or dependent care expenses, receipts for charitable contributions and any other information necessary to support income or expenses.
