The following person was booked into the Carson City jail over the weekend. He is innocent until proved guilty in court.
• Joshua Cook, 26, of Carson City, was arrested about 2 a.m. Saturday and charged with misdemeanor obstructing an officer, with a felony charge of battery with substantial bodily harm added later. Sheriff Ken Furlong reported seeing him near Jimmy G's Cigar Bar with a small cut on his head. When Furlong asked about the cut, Cook allegedly ran. When he was found, Cook told officers he was sucker-punched at the bar, according to the arrest report. A short time later, officers reported receiving a call from a man who said he had been beaten up and couldn't breathe. They reported finding him near Jimmy G's, bleeding from his nose, mouth and face, with his eyes swollen shut. He was taken to Renown Regional Medical center due to the extent of his injuries, according to the arrest report. Detectives used security footage of the area to see the victim apparently hiding and then running from Cook. In the video, Cook catches the man and takes him to the ground, hitting his own head on a railing, according to the report. He then allegedly choked the victim, despite the victim apparently trying to signal him to stop, according to the report. He then reportedly rolled the victim onto his back and punched him in the face several times before stomping on his face and kicking him in the face twice. The security footage showed the victim lying unconscious for several minutes, according to the report. Cook's bail was $15,300.
