WildCats win second tournament

The Carson WildCats won five straight games, pounding out 44 hits and scoring 46 runs to win the ASA "A" U18 girls softball championship in Incline Village over the weekend.

Winning their second tournament of the year, the WildCats were in control of all five games even though Sunday's single elimination games saw the WildCats struggling to put together a lineup when the starting outfield was absent because of a wedding and vehicle problems.

The WildCats defeated the Lafayette Lighting 10-3 in its first pool play game, beat the California Gamers 10-3 and then beat the Red Storm out of Gardnerville to finish pool play unbeaten.

The WildCats knocked off the Red Storm in the semifinals before topping the Gamers 7-5 in the championship game.

Lauren Knorzer hit two homers to key the semifinal win over Red Storm. In the title game Sydney Knorzer collected two hits to spark the WildCats.

Pitcher Ivette Garcia won all five games. Garcia started and won four of the games. She relieved Kaitlyn Jimmy to pick up the fifth win.

A strong hitting attack led by Rebecca McConnell 8 for 13, Knorzer 7 for 12, Kelsie Callahan 6 for 11, and Cara McCarthy 6 for 13, keyed the tourney sweep. McCarthy also homered for the locals.

Trio teams up for

win at Silver Oak

Linda Davis, Deb Warzynski and Betty Mesier teamed up to win Silver Oak Women's Club Mail Box game on July 19 with an 87.

Barbara Succuro, Karin Pitcock and Bev Eichman were second with a 97, while Corie Nieto, Marty Lewis and Margaret Christiansen were third with a 102.

In senior men's play, Lew Dodgion and Larry Hamann shot a net 55 to win the 2-man best ball event. Tom and Wilbur Keating were second with a 56, while Steve Alcalay and Tona Smith were third with a 57.

Schreiber and Hines

tie at Carson Valley

Jeff Schreiber and Tim Hines shot net 67s to tie for the Flight A title at Carson Valley Golf Club's weekly event on July 22.

Bob Pemberton and Bob McLean tied for third with 69s. Bill Allen won Flight B with a 67, while Matt Budjako was second with a 68. Brent Holderman and John Carey tied for the C flight top spot with a 71.

John Masiello and Nick Paul, Ed Rector and Bob Warzynski, and Bruce Serpa and Bob Pitcock tied for first in their respective flights with two-man scramble scores of 55 at Dayton Valley Golf Club on July 18,

Norm Scoggin and Chris Nenzel won Flight D with a 54. Paul Weller and Frank Romano and Marshall McCurdy and Gary Mick also had 54s.

Joe Scott and Jim Sand, Dahl Rask and Fred Olesek, Verne Rosse and Lew Dodgion all finished second in the A, B and C flights.

Rydel, Mello team

up for T.C. win

Steve Rydel and Dave Mello shot a net 63 to win the blind partner event at Thunder Canyon on June 19.

Bob Bittman and Ray Badger were second with a 65, while Bret Andreas and Vern Hamilton were third with a 67.

On the women's side, Charlotte Sullivan, Mary Anderson, Jeanne Brennan and Marylou Boardman won the Cha Cha Cha tournament with a 115. Elizabeth Heaven, Karon Sullivan, Jeanne Fadem and Kathy Cockerill were second at 116.

Dayton's Hampton

records ace at Empire

David Hampton recorded an ace on the par-3 140-yard fifth hole at Empire Ranch. Hampton used a 5-wood for his historic shot. Brad Winter was the witness.

Braun wins AltaAlpina

cycling event

Robert Braun won the A group AltaAlpina cycling race at Diamond Valley on July 19. Garth Jackson was second and Kevin Willits was third.

In the B group, Rick Newberry, Tina Hughes and Bill Smaine finished 1-2-3. In the C group, Jamie Borino, Jennie Hamiter and Mike Shipman were the top three finishers. Jim Harris won the D group and Cole Pinther won the junior race.
