Local baseball teams need help

For years, youth baseball players went from Carson City Little League to Babe Ruth if they wanted to continue their careers.

In 2011, the Babe Ruth league disbanded, and Carson City Little League added Junior and Senior divisions.

And now a year later, both Carson City junior and senior all-star teams are headed to Western Regional competition. It's the first time since the early 90s that a Carson team has reached regional play.

"Nobody thought it would happen (get off the ground)," said Craig "Bear" Stevens, a coach in the Carson program. "We had a few teams last year, and this year ended up with 12 teams, including our 50-70 program (for 13-year-olds)."

With success comes another problem - money.

Carson City Little League is asking for community help so it can finance transportation and hotel costs during the junior all-star tournament in Vancouver and the senior all-star tournament in Southern California.

Any business or individual interested in helping out should contact Stevens immediately at 775-315-6984 or on line at bearden45@sbcglobal.net . The senior team leaves this weekend, while the junior all-stars leave either Aug. 30 or 31, so obviously time is of the essence.
