I see Congress is in recess, so not much is going on.
But come to think about it, not much has been going on since the election process began.
It seems the Republican candidates are all staying in the race for the nomination, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it came down to a convention vote. We are hearing a great many promises of what each one would do if elected president. What we don't hear is how they are going to accomplish things if there is either a Democratic House or a Democratic Senate or both. They can ask President Barack Obama about this one. He has introduced many of the ideas that he promised to do, but he hasn't been able to get them through the Republican House. The same would apply with a Republican president and a Democratic Senate. It's all called "politics."
A big deal right now is the Super PACs. I can't imagine what possessed the U.S. Supreme Court to pass on such a monstrous idea. It opened the floodgates for every millionaire/billionaire to influence not only the outcome for our presidential election but any race for public office. I see that Rep. Shelley Berkley has a movement going on asking people to call in to Sen. Dean Heller to sign an agreement not to utilize and Super PACs in their race for his Senate seat. It will be interesting to see how that goes.
In the meantime, the spotlight on senior benefits has kind of taken a back seat to the election; however, I'm certain it will start up again, and we will be watching. The Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans has just published the congressional voting records of all members of the House and Senate. I will have copies very soon; if you are interested in how the Nevada delegation and others in Congress voted on senior issues, I will be glad to send you a copy. Call me at (775) 224-0904 and leave me a message with your name and address. This is a very interesting report to check out. Stay tuned!
