'Artists and Global Events'program offered by CCAI

Nevada Neighbors, the Capital City Arts Initiative's ongoing series of illustrated public talks, will host Marjorie Vecchio, curator of the Sheppard Gallery at the University of Nevada, Reno,

Vecchio's talk, "As the World Turns: Artists and Global Events," will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St. Preceding her talk, there will be an informal reception 6:15 p.m.

The presentation and reception are free, and the public is invited.

Vecchio will address changes she has seen in young art students during the past decade, as well as mounting pressures that artists and art institutions face in light of political and social uncertainty.

Vecchio moved to Reno from New York City in 2006 with 12 years of experience as a teacher, artist, curator and gallery president between Chicago and NYC. Since 1999, she has curated more than 40 exhibitions, more than 250 artists, and has published 15 scholars, philosophers, writers and poets in 25 catalogs, and has written more than 22 catalogs essays.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization that encourages and supports artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region.
