Cause of death of bodies found in river in January: Drowning, intoxication

The toxicology report on two bodies found Jan. 10 in the Carson River showed that both victims were extremely intoxicated when they drowned to death.

The two, Darrell and Kelly Crossman, were described in January as unemployed and living with relatives in Carson City. There was no sign of foul play at the scene. A campsite with the couple's truck and two small dogs was found nearby.

According to the toxicology report, the man's blood alcohol content was .319 percent, almost quadruple the legal driving limit. The woman's BAC was .212 percent. The official ruling to cause of death was drowning and acute alcohol intoxication, said Ruth Rhines, senior deputy coroner for the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

She said there was no sign of one falling in and the other trying to help.

The bodies were found in less than knee-deep water at the east bank of the river just south of Lloyd's Bridge, Sheriff Ken Furlong said in January.
