Mixed media art works of Orlando Montenegro will explore abstraction through the distortion of boundaries in an exhibit beginning next Monday in Carson City.
The "Radiant Trajectory" exhibit in the Office Exhibition Series at the OXS Gallery, 716 N. Carson St., Suite A, features the works of the Las Vegas artist through Jan. 18, 2013.
The gallery is at the Nevada Arts Council, a division of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, and is managed by the council's Artist Services Program.
Montenegro, who has received a 2013 Artist Fellowship grant, was born in Managua, Nicaragua, in 1982 and came with his family to Nevada in 1989. Montenegro earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2007. He also has a master's degree from the University of Arizona.
His works going on display in Carson City explore abstraction through the distortion of boundaries that separate the body from its environment. They avoid relying on imagery that allows viewers to make specific connections to recognizable subject matter.
Montenegro, who currently teaches drawing as an adjunct professor at UNLV, has had previous shows at various locations, among them the College of Southern Nevada's Fine Arts Gallery.
The OXS Gallery in Nevada's capital city is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, and there is no charge to see the "Radiant Trajectory" exhibit.
The state's arts council is funded by both the state Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
