Medicare open enrollment begins Monday

The Medicare open enrollment period begins Monday and ends Dec. 7. Coverage selected during this time becomes effective as of Jan. 1.

Medicare beneficiaries will have an opportunity to select a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan in which to enroll, replace an existing plan and compare existing coverage to other plans.

To research prescription drug and health plans for 2013, go to www.medicare.gov/find-a-plan. For guidance during the open enrollment period, go to www.aarpmedicareplans.com.
